Court Clears Black Sherif in Dispute With Former Management
Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has secured a major legal victory after the High Court (Commercial Division) dismissed the bulk of claims brought against him by his former management, Charvis Wayne’s Consult.
The ruling, delivered on Thursday, January 16, 2026, by Justice Afia Adu-Amankwa, brings an end to the prolonged legal dispute between the internationally acclaimed artiste—born Shadrach Owusu Agyei—and his former manager, Mohammed Ismail Sherif.
In her judgment, the court acknowledged that a valid management agreement once existed between the parties. However, the judge found that the plaintiff failed to provide credible evidence to support key allegations, including claims that Black Sherif withheld revenue, failed to account for earnings, or caused financial losses.
The court further held that the former management did not submit full accounts as required under the contract and could not prove that it continued performing its obligations after the agreement had been terminated. Claims relating to construction works and other expenses allegedly incurred on the artiste’s behalf were also rejected due to lack of proof.
Justice Adu-Amankwa also noted that the plaintiff did not take reasonable steps to mitigate any losses arising from the termination of the agreement.
However, the court ruled that Black Sherif’s engagement with a third party while the management contract was still in force constituted a technical breach of the agreement. Despite this finding, the judge stressed that no substantial loss was demonstrated.
As a result, the court awarded nominal damages of GH¢50,000, describing the breach as limited in scope. All other reliefs sought by the plaintiff were dismissed. Costs of GH¢15,000 were also awarded, restricted to reasonable legal and related expenses.
The judgment effectively closes the chapter on the dispute, with the court making it clear that no significant liability rests on the award-winning artiste.
Following the ruling, Black Sherif is expected to fully refocus on his music career and ongoing international engagements, continuing his rise on the global stage.
