Ghana’s 2026 Overall National Best Farmer and National Best Poultry Farmer will each receive a seven-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Italy as part of the prizes for this year’s 42nd National Farmers’ Day Celebration.
The international study and benchmarking trips are being sponsored by Mehak Company Limited and Covenant Farms in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).
The initiative is designed to give Ghana’s outstanding farmers first-hand exposure to modern agricultural technologies, sustainable production systems, innovative processing methods and developments across the agricultural value chain.
Overall National Best Farmer to travel with spouse or partner
Under the sponsorship arrangement, Mehak Company Limited will sponsor the Overall National Best Farmer and the winner’s spouse or partner on a seven-day agricultural study and leisure trip to Italy.
The programme will expose the farmer to modern European agritech, sustainable agricultural value chains and innovative food-processing systems.
The experience is expected to provide practical knowledge that could be adapted to Ghana’s agricultural sector and contribute to improved productivity, efficiency and value addition.
The Overall National Best Farmer will also receive a broader prize package, including GH¢1.2 million in cash, a brand-new Nissan Navara pickup, a brand-new tractor and accessories, as well as other agricultural inputs and prizes.
National Best Poultry Farmer gets technical Italy trip
The National Best Poultry Farmer 2026 will receive a separate seven-day, all-expenses-paid technical and benchmarking trip to Italy sponsored by Covenant Farms.
The poultry-focused programme will concentrate on modern poultry production practices, sustainable farming systems and innovative technologies.
The trip is also expected to provide the winner with international exposure to developments across the poultry value chain and opportunities to learn from established production and management systems.
Supporting Ghana’s agricultural modernisation
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture said the international exposure packages are intended to recognise excellence, innovation and resilience among Ghanaian farmers while supporting the country’s agricultural modernisation agenda.
The ministry said the trips would expose the winners to modern farming technologies, processing innovations and smart agricultural practices that could contribute to agricultural development in Ghana.
The initiative also highlights the role of private-sector participation in supporting farmers and strengthening Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Italy travel arrangements completed
MoFA disclosed that it has completed negotiations with the Embassy of Italy to facilitate the travel arrangements for the eventual winners of the two categories.
The winners will undertake the trips after they are selected during the 42nd National Farmers’ Day Celebration.
The ministry expressed appreciation to the management of Mehak Company Limited and Covenant Farms for supporting the National Farmers’ Day celebrations and providing what it described as an important benchmark for private-sector support for agriculture.
Recognising Ghana’s farmers
The 2026 National Farmers’ Day awards are expected to spotlight farmers who have demonstrated productivity, innovation and resilience in contributing to Ghana’s food production and agricultural economy.
Beyond the financial and material prizes, the Italy trips will give the two national award winners an opportunity to gain international knowledge and observe agricultural technologies and production systems that could inform their own operations.
The partnership between MoFA, Mehak Company Limited and Covenant Farms therefore adds an international learning component to this year’s awards, with the two winners set to return with knowledge from Italy that could potentially benefit Ghana’s agricultural sector.
