Brighton & Hove Albion secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Getafe in Spain on Thursday, November 5, 2026, thanks to a second-half header from Malick Yalcouyé in the UEFA Conference League.
The Ivorian midfielder scored in the 64th minute to give Fabian Hürzeler’s side three valuable points and maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.
Brighton travelled to Spain hoping to bounce back from a frustrating goalless draw against Jablonec in their previous European fixture, while Getafe were looking to recover from their heavy 5–2 defeat to Lugano.
The visitors started positively and created several opportunities in the opening stages.
Georginio Rutter and Jack Hinshelwood both tested Getafe goalkeeper David Soria, who made important saves to keep the home side in the contest.
Getafe also threatened, forcing Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen into an impressive save to deny Iván Azón.
Brighton came close to taking the lead before half-time when Jaouen Hadjam struck the post with a promising effort. Malick Yalcouyé’s follow-up was subsequently cleared off the goal line by Sebastián Boselli.
Hadjam threatened again later, sending a long-range effort against the crossbar as Brighton continued searching for the breakthrough.
Brighton finally found the breakthrough in the 64th minute.
Costinha headed Pascal Groß’s delivery back across the goalmouth, allowing Yalcouyé to rise and direct the ball into the net with a close-range header.
The goal proved decisive as Brighton defended their advantage and secured all three points.
Substitute Ibrahim Osman came close to extending the lead after coming on, but failed to convert a promising opportunity from Diego Gómez’s delivery.
Despite the narrow scoreline, Brighton managed to see out the contest and claim an important away victory.
The victory takes Brighton to seven points from their opening three Conference League matches, leaving them fifth in the league-phase standings and firmly in the automatic qualification positions.
The Seagulls have also maintained an impressive defensive record, having yet to concede in the competition this season.
However, questions remain about their ability to consistently break down well-organised defences, particularly in matches where their attacking opportunities are limited.
For Getafe, the defeat represents their second loss in three Conference League fixtures, leaving them with work to do if they are to keep their European campaign on track.
Final score: Getafe 0–1 Brighton & Hove Albion
Goal: Malick Yalcouyé 64′
