Zanetor Rawlings Reportedly Emerges in NDC Running Mate Discussions as 2028 Race Takes Shape

Accra, Ghana — Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is reportedly being considered as a possible running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), depending on who eventually emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

According to insider information cited by MASK BLOG, two of the individuals currently interested in the NDC flagbearership are said to favour Dr. Zanetor Rawlings as a potential running mate.

The report, however, has not been officially confirmed by the NDC, and the party has not announced a running mate for the 2028 election.

Ablakwa and Sammy Gyamfi also mentioned

The discussions surrounding a possible running mate reportedly extend beyond Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Sammy Gyamfi are also said to have attracted attention from some members of the NDC leadership, with their respective public roles and political profiles reportedly contributing to the discussions.

Ablakwa is currently serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs, while Sammy Gyamfi has also become a prominent figure within the governing NDC administration.

The reports come as speculation surrounding the NDC’s 2028 leadership continues to develop.

A recent Global InfoAnalytics poll conducted among NDC delegates between September 11 and 13, 2026, placed Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and General Johnson Asiedu Nketia among the leading figures in the party’s flagbearer contest. The poll is a measurement of delegate preferences at that particular time and does not determine the eventual flagbearer.

Zanetor’s growing political profile

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, has remained a prominent figure within the NDC.

Her political profile has also featured in previous discussions about the party’s running-mate options. In 2024, reports identified her among names being considered before the NDC ultimately retained Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as John Mahama’s running mate.

More recently, President John Mahama swore in Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology on August 29, 2026, following Parliament’s approval of her nomination.

For now, the question of who will eventually become the NDC’s 2028 running mate remains open, with the final decision expected to depend on the outcome of the party’s flagbearer process and subsequent internal consultations.

African360 will continue to follow developments surrounding the NDC’s 2028 leadership race.
