Venezia Appoint Davide Nicola After Sacking Coach Giovanni Stroppa

Venezia have appointed Davide Nicola as their new head coach after dismissing Giovanni Stroppa, with the struggling Serie A side hoping the experienced Italian can turn around their difficult start to the season.

The newly promoted club confirmed the appointment on Wednesday after parting ways with Stroppa earlier in the week.

Venezia have endured a disastrous return to Italy’s top flight, losing their opening six league matches and remaining rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table without a point.

Their latest setback was a 3-1 defeat away to Atalanta on Monday, which proved to be Stroppa’s final match in charge.

Nicola tasked with saving Venezia

The 53-year-old Nicola arrives at Venezia having been without a club since leaving Cremonese in March.

He has built a reputation in Italian football for helping struggling teams escape relegation danger, having previously managed clubs including Crotone, Genoa, Torino, Salernitana and Empoli.

His ability to organise teams under pressure and collect crucial points in difficult circumstances will be particularly important as Venezia attempt to revive their campaign.

Nicola’s first match in charge is scheduled to be against Napoli on Saturday, giving him little time to prepare for a demanding opening assignment.

Pressure mounts in Serie A

Stroppa’s dismissal comes amid a turbulent start to the Serie A season, with several clubs already making changes in the dugout.

Venezia’s poor results have left them facing an uphill battle to preserve their top-flight status, while the gap to the teams immediately above them has increased.

The club will hope Nicola can quickly improve their defensive organisation, restore confidence and deliver the results needed to climb away from the foot of the table.

For Nicola, the challenge is familiar: take charge of a struggling side, steady the team and fight for survival in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

Venezia supporters will now be looking to see whether their new manager can repeat his previous rescue missions and give the club renewed hope of remaining in Serie A.
