The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to benefit from increased financial support from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following a 33 per cent rise in annual funding for its 54 member associations.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the increase on October 14, 2026, raising the annual subvention available to each member association from $525,000 to up to $700,000. The move is part of CAF’s broader strategy to strengthen football development, improve administration and promote financial sustainability across Africa.
The latest adjustment continues a series of funding increases introduced since 2021. CAF’s annual allocation per member association has grown from $200,000 in 2021 to $400,000, then $525,000, and now up to $700,000.
The new figure represents a 250 per cent increase compared with the 2021 allocation, giving national football associations access to greater financial resources to support their activities and development programmes.
Beyond the national associations, CAF has also announced higher annual financial support for its zonal unions.
Their allocations will increase by 20 per cent, from $750,000 to $900,000 annually. The African Clubs Association will also benefit from an increase, with its allocation rising from $400,000 to $500,000.
CAF says the additional funding is intended to strengthen football structures, improve governance and support sustainable development across the continent.

For the GFA, the increase could create additional opportunities to invest in grassroots football, youth development, women’s football and the development of coaches and referees.
The funding could also help strengthen administrative operations and improve football structures at different levels of the game, depending on how the resources are allocated and managed.
However, the impact of the increased subvention will depend on effective financial management, accountability and the GFA’s ability to direct resources towards Ghana’s football development priorities.
The latest increase reflects CAF’s stated ambition to build stronger and more financially sustainable football systems across its 54 member associations.
By increasing the resources available to national associations, zonal unions and the African Clubs Association, CAF aims to improve football administration and create more opportunities for players, coaches, referees and other stakeholders.
For Ghana, the increased allocation presents an opportunity to strengthen football development programmes and support the long-term growth of the game, provided the funds are used effectively.
